FAQ
Which prerequisites and/or requirements are compulsory for the ARe program?
There are no prerequisites or requirements to a certain specialized level for this course. However, because the course material and the evening courses are in English, your English knowledge must be good (proficiency level). It is nevertheless recommendable to have some basic knowledge and experience in Primary Insurance or Reinsurance.
Is it possible to attend a single module?
Because the training is very broad in scope and each module is unique in itself, it is feasible to attend only one module, for example the vital module about reinsurance know-how (ARe 144). However the IIS offers the courses only once and in the sequence of the whole program.
What is the recommended amount of time necessary for this course?
Around 6-7 hours per week are recommended for this training with 4-5 hours for studying the course book and 2 hours for the evening classes. Additionally, set aside approximately 2 days to prepare for the exam. Before starting, please schedule enough time for the course besides your vocational and personal activities.
What requirements are needed to achieve the ARe diploma?
The requirements for achieving the diploma are to succeed in the 5 exams of the 5 modules (Ratio of 70%). However there are certain waiver possibilities, e.g. for the Swiss Insurance Diploma or a MBA Designation. Please get in touch with the IIS.
How are the examinations arranged? Can they be repeated?
It is only written exams that are used as a form of assessment in this course. There are no oral exams and no other essays, reports or the like necessary. Exams differ with the courses and last between 2 (ARe and ARM) and 3 hours (CPCU). For details please refer to the detailed description of each course. The examinations may be taken in a random sequence and may be repeated as necessary.
