The goal of the Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU)  program is to give the participants a broad, basic understanding of the key professional liability disciplines. Our goal in this course is it to give you the possibility to link the self-learned RPLU-material with the Swiss and European market. You will work with your gained knowledge on case examples and learn the practical relevance. In this half-day course, we will show you how to use your knowledge in your daily business.

Learning content

The fundamentals of liability insurance, including risk management, loss exposure and the role of insurance in risk financing, are addressed in this module. Basic concepts of insurance, such as indemnification, risk exposure, insurable risk, claims underwriting, and “book of business” are defined and linked to your daily business. The material explains many different types of insurance professionals involved in the process, including agents, brokers, claims professionals, underwriters, and others. The legal principles which underlie the concept of liability are lively discussed in class as they relate to general liability and specific considerations of professional liability exposures. The seminar also touches on the regulation of insurance and the role of excess & surplus lines companies in the marketplace. Through case examples, the transfer to implementation is assured. The second part discusses the fundamental concepts and principles of CGL, including how and why it was developed, and the differences between the various types of coverage triggers. The various coverages – Bodily Injury & Property Damage, Personal & Advertising Injury, Medical Payments and Supplemental Payment are explained.  In this course we will also discuss the special political components of the Swiss and European market. The course reviews the relationship between the limits of liability on excess/umbrella policies and the underlying coverages and insuring agreements. We will explore the particularities and compare them through the different countries.

Targeting group and requirements

This seminar is designed to help you with the online learning of the Core Modules of the RPLU-Diploma. Therefore, the complementation of the first modules “Fundamental of Liability Insurance” and “Commercial General Liability” is required. The seminar addresses itself to all persons out of the professional liability industry.

Setting

The course is designed for a half-day. Together with the online modules, we are working in a blended-learning-setting. The material used at the day will be handed out to you, as well as additional material related to the topic.

Certificate

For the seminar, you will receive a certificate of participation. With passing all exams of the RPLU- Designation, you will receive the RPLU-Diploma.
